Atlantic Canada Road Trip
Day 1 - St. John’s, NL:
Travelling from Vancouver to St. John’s isn’t the quickest trip! More than likely you’ll have a layover and with the time change we didn’t arrive till 6 AM local time the next day. So for our first ‘real’ day, we wanted to take it slow! We visited Cape Spear, which is the most eastern point in Canada & North America. Before dinner we drove to Signal Hill/Queens battery and toured area. To end the night, we stopped by Adelaide Oyster House for dinner.
Day 2 - St. John’s, Dildo & Quidi Vidi, NL:
We got lots done on day 2. We grabbed a quick bite and coffee at The Battery Cafe. After we went a little road trip to towns Dildo and Quidi Vidi. We toured the areas and visited both breweries there as well. For dinner, I made a reservation at The Little Sparo (Italian - 11/10.) Later on, we stopped by Christian’s Pub to get screeched (check my Newfoundland IG highlights haha).
Day 3 - Gros Morne, NL:
We started our day early heading to Gros Morne National Park. It’s about a 7 hour drive so it was a long day. We camped at Green Point Campground, which we booked through the official parks website.
Day 4 - Gros Morne, NL:
Unfortunately due to weather we didn’t get to do our big hike. We ended up visiting Lobster Cove Head & Trout River instead for the day. There’s not a ton of food options around Gros Morne but Java Jack’s is a really cute restaurant in town and we loved the food!
Day 5 - Halifax, NS:
Our first day in Halifax! We had a midday flight from Gander Airport so we didn’t have time to do a whole lot. Our first night was very foggy so we couldn’t see much but we made the most of it. We stopped by Bar Sofia for drinks first and then I made a reservation at Cafe Lunette for dinner! Cafe Lunette serves French food and it was one of my favourite food spots during our entire trip. Definitely go if you get the chance!
Day 6 - Halifax, Lunenburg & Peggy’s Cove, NS:
Our first stop of the day was in the town of Lunenburg! A very quaint picturesque town. We then drove towards Peggy’s Cove to see their famous lighthouse. The views at Peggy’s were amazing!! We grabbed a quick lobster roll (my first one ever) at Tom’s Lobster Shack! We then headed back to Halifax to check out Bicycle Thief for dinner. It was by far the most recommended restaurant we got this trip! After dinner we stopped at Cows for ice cream and had a drink at Salt + Ash.
Day 7 - Inverness, NS:
Lynden’s favourite day! We finally made it to Cabot Cliffs Golf Course. If you’re a big golfer you know how special Cabot is, it’s one of the top 10 courses!! It’s definitely not for the beginners, especially because of the price tag $$$. I walked along as Lynden golfed and we got to witness some of the best views we’ve seen on this trip! Since we did a twlight round, there wasn’t much open for food after but lots of you recommended Route 19 and it had great brewery food!
Day 8 - Cape Breton, NS/Charlottetown, PEI:
We started our morning bright and early for a sunrise hike! We did the Skyline Trail in Cape Breton Highlands National Park. This is a must-see if you’re in the area! Don’t worry, I’m not a hiker myself but this was totally doable. It was more of a trail walk. We took a ferry from Nova Scotia to PEI this day and it was magical. Once we got to Charlottetown, we went for dinner at Claddagh Oyster House.
Day 9 - Charlottetown & Cavendish, PEI:
We started our day walking around downtown and had brunch at Leonhard’s! We wandered and window-shopped downtown for a few hours and then made our way to Cavendish (beach town around 40 min from Charlottetown). We had a beach day and then caught the most beautiful sunset I think I’ve ever seen!! We camped right by the shore at the Cavendish Campground in Prince Edward Island National Park. For dinner, we headed to Original Richard’s for some more seafood and COWS (COWS started in Cavendish) for a little ice cream for dessert.
Day 10 - St. Andrews, NB:
Our last province! We’re stayed in St. Andrews, which is another charming seaside town. The Seaside Beach Resort was such a perfect spot for us. Note - make a reso at The Chandler Room! We got so many suggestions for this spot but unfortunately they were full for the night. It was so cute and the food looked amazing!!
Day 11 - Alma, Moncton & Shediac, NB
We headed next to Alma for half of the day! Go to Kelly’s Bake Shop and grab a sticky bun! After that we went to Hopewell Rocks. We spent most of the day driving around and taking in the natural beauty of New Brunswick! We ended our day in Moncton and had dinner at Les Brumes Du Coude. It was amazing! Lynden’s favourite and my second favourite dinner of our trip! After we drove to Shediac to catch the sunset. We grabbed a drink at The Sandbar. We ended our last night with a stop to the ICONIC Giant Lobster haha.
